In It For The Long Haul..
Dave wasn't feeling very well today. He was tired, and achy, and quite moody for most of the afternoon. We went to the gym thinking it would help take some of the tension away, but Dave really just didn't have the energy for working out today, so it was a short trip.
I finished out the evening filling out and scanning legal forms for Charlie. Well, I filled them out, and Mom helped with the scanning since her scanner has a mind of it's own. We're still perpetually unfinished with the piles of things that require our attention, but we made another little dent in the mountain.
This evening it was time to watch another episode of So, You Think You Can Dance with the family over dinner. It was such a small thing tonight, but we grilled hamburgers on our George Foreman grill. (The one that Dave and I cooked on most nights when we had a normal life of our own). It was strange to see such an iconic item from a past life. Dave stood beside the grill as I cooked the hamburgers and quietly got lost in old memories for a while. It was bitter-sweet for both of us. Mostly bitter, lol.
Mom reminded me about that unfortunate day when we went to pack up all our things while Dave was still classified as a vegetable at Healthsouth.. and how I didn't care about any of it, and wanted it all gone, and tried tossing it all in the dumpster. I didn't think we'd ever have use for any of those things again. Thank God for Mom's and saner heads prevailing or who knows what I might have done in my desperation. Most of our things are packed and stored away, untouched and unused.. but when the occasional item of old drifts by, it really tugs at my heartstrings.
Dave just finished belting out Michael Buble off key for over an hour. It always starts out so loud and proud and within minutes he's already worn out and slurring, but no one tries harder at everything he does, than Dave. If his heroic effort alone was enough to get us back where we should be.. we'd have been there months ago. Sometimes, I don't know how he continues to try, and to fight.. and never once considers giving up. I'm so proud of him.
Dave's in the shower now, and I'm headed that way. Maybe I'll have time for a little Solitaire to unwind with afterward. Thank You for joining us this evening, and until next time.. Much Love, Many Hugs, and Good Night to You All.
