Fire in the Sky..
I seem to be one confused American. We celebrate on the third. We celebrate on the fifth. We do laundry and stay in on the fourth, lol. I guess that's the beauty of being free to do whatever you want, whenever you want to do it.
Tonight was really great. Some friends of the folks had a party a few blocks down the road from here. Mom and Wayne were providing the music, but they insisted that Dave and I come too. There was a mountain of food, a bonfire, and karaoke, of course. Uncle Sam stopped by and handed out those awesome light up neon necklaces that every good summer event has. (We didn't even have to pay five bucks for one, lol). The best part of the party though, hands down.. was one of the best home grown fireworks displays I've ever seen. Five different neighbors on the same block went in together and spent over fifteen hundred dollars on the nice, BIG fireworks. It was stunning, truly. They must have lasted more than two hours. The really extra fabulous part was that the neighbor two doors down was putting on his OWN impressive display, so we had light in the sky in both directions.
Dave, interestingly enough.. has trouble with watching fireworks, as it turns out. It's just one of the many normal and ordinary things to add to the list that this brain injury affects where you just wouldn't expect it to. Somehow, the motion of tilting his head back and looking up at the sky, stretches his neck just awkwardly enough that saliva slips down the wrong way and he chokes on it. He must have choked and coughed two dozen times in two hours tonight. It wasn't good. It wasn't hurting him any, not really, and good natured Dave was naturally trying to make jokes and laugh about it.. but it's frustrating to me, and I have trouble seeing the humor in it. If it wasn't for that mini-catastrophe, (and the dozen men with too much spiked cool-aide in them trying to kiss your hand all night), the evening was flawless. I'm extremely glad I decided not to stay home just so Dave could take another nap and I could waste my time inside playing on the computer.
Mom and Wayne aren't coming home again tonight. When they park that trailer to do a long night of karaoke somewhere, they inevitably decide to just stay overnight and drag the trailer home come morning. We always miss them, especially the dogs, but we're all getting pretty used to the half empty house by now. I don't know if there are any other folks still celebrating out there, but I hope everyone had a phenomenal weekend. Thank You for joining us this evening, and until next time, Much Love, Many Hugs, and Good Night to You All.
