Sweets for Speech.. |
|
Another quiet day in the Osadchuk camp. We went to speech therapy this morning, and ate patriotic tootsie-rolls. (Hey, sometimes it's nice that she caters to kids. It definitely has it's perks, lol). Dave sang his songs, and practiced the letters that give him the most trouble. Ch sounds and R blends are really a challenge for him, and Dge endings are particularly brutal.. but we just keep working on them. Steady as we go. |
|
Sometimes it's amazing to watch Dave struggle with some of the things he struggles with. His mind is good and he knows how the letters sound. He knows how to move his lips, and hold his tongue.. he just can't make his mouth cooperate with his mind. His tongue is dead weight, and the muscles in his throat just don't work how they're supposed to anymore. It's so frustrating for all three of us, but we try to make light of it, and make it more of a game than anything. Thank God Dave and I have such ironic senses of humors, or we'd just never make it. |

Elaine is really loving the Michael Buble this week that I've been picking out for him. It's a little more adult than Row, Row Row Your Boat at least, and Dave sings them very well, since they're slower songs that give him plenty of room for the extra breaths he needs. I have three Buble songs lined up for him this month, and I think we're gonna try Kokomo, a Beach Boys favorite in a few weeks. We'll see how it goes. |

Our dear lawyer, Charlie, called us this afternoon. You know, I talked to him for twenty-five minutes and when I hung up the phone, I still didn't have a clue what he said.. lol. Everything is still just as complicated as it ever was.. maybe more so. Apparently a little bit of everyone wants an impressive lump of Dave's settlement, and most especially the government, who seem to have the biggest, greediest hands of them all. Personally, I think it's terribly unfair that injury settlements are taxed at all, and at 35%? Wow. Insurance companies that you feel immensely grateful to have around during extreme tragedies.. are first in line to be repaid when there's a little money to be had. It's a little frightening to see who pops up where and how much they expect in return for services rendered. I was instantly overwhelmed and thanking my lucky stars that I can just say.. "I trust you, Charlie.. Do what you've gotta do." And, he just does it. Hopefully, when the dust settles a little.. it won't quite seem so disturbing. |

The rest of tonight will be even more quiet. I think we're just going to watch a little TV with the family, until the folks go to bed, and get our showers in before we call it a day. Thank You so much for joining us this evening, and until next time.. Much Love, Many Hugs, and Good Night to You All. |
