Thousand and One Degrees F..
I was very proud of us today, for being able to get up when our alarm went off. I had a lot to do, and several places to get too within a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately.. being outdoors for any length of time right now is absolute misery. It's so hot, and worse, it's SO muggy. It just isn't pleasant. I wanted to get done and get done quickly.
We started off mailing out several boxes from the post office this morning. I was surprised at how everyone's face lit up at the post office when I walked in. They haven't seen us there in forever they said. It's nice to be missed when you're not expecting it. We went to the pharmacy and got some love and a few prescriptions. We went to the bank to pay a couple bills that were coming a little too close to being late for my liking. They were out of grape suckers, and everyone there knows it's Dave's favorite flavor. The bank manager herself went on a hunt for them in the back, so that Dave could have the kind he wanted. He's so spoiled, lol. There are some pretty adorable advantages to living in a small town sometimes I guess.
Somehow, we made it to speech therapy right on time. Elaine has a new shadow for the next four weeks. Amanda is a recent Indiana State University graduate. Dave tried telling her that I was a proud alumni from there as well, but she just kept agreeing with him, and repeating that yes, she graduated from there.. lol. You'd think a promising young intern in the speech rehabilitation department would be able to understand the people that she expects to help one day. Not yet. It's always a challenge to help break in a new assistant therapist. Inevitably, we have to catch them up to speed on what's happened to us, where we've been, what we've done, and where we're headed. It's time consuming, and not entirely entertaining, but hopefully it won't take too long this time around.
Elaine was telling us today about a local sixteen year old boy who was just in a terrible car accident. He was in a coma for several months, and has also suffered a traumatic brain injury. He can't walk yet, and he has trouble speaking. He's only just recently been introduced to real foods again. He's not doing very well, from what we've heard, and he's very discouraged. I don't know how well he's doing cognitively, but I'm sure we'll find out soon. Elaine asked Dave and I if she could introduce him to us sometime in the near future, and talk to him about where we've been, and how we've managed to get from where we were to where we are now. She thinks it might help to encourage and motivate him to try and get better. Of course we told her yes. Anytime.
The rest of the evening was spent eating dinner and watching a little television with the folks. They're leaving in the morning for their five day trip so we wanted to get in some good quality time with them while they were still here. We're going to miss them.. but they'll be back soon. They're getting ready for bed now. They have to get up pretty darn early in the morning. Dave and I are settling in to our night. Dave's off to the shower, and I'll be hanging around online while I wait for my turn. There are no major plans for adventure tonight, but if any action breaks, you'll be the very first to know!! Thank You so much for joining us this evening, as always.. and until next time, Much Love, Many Hugs, and Good Night to You All.
